Job Description

As a Patient Care Technician at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, typical duties include:

  • Assisting patients with daily activities, personal hygiene, and ambulation
  • Transporting patients to/from exams, procedures or other departments
  • Collecting specimens like blood, urine or stool samples
  • Monitoring vital signs, EKGs, oxygen levels, and patient status
  • Performing basic wound care, therapeutic techniques, and measurements
  • Serving and feeding patients, answering light requests
  • Cleaning/sterilizing exam rooms and equipment between patients
  • Communicating changes, concerns or questions to nurses
  • Ensuring safety, comfort and timely care for all assigned patients
  • Documenting care, inputting information into medical records

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, technical, and problem-solving skills to provide compassionate support under nurses’ supervision. A team-player attitude and commitment to quality care are essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 6+ months experience as a CNA, medical assistant, emergency/hospital tech, or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant license or willingness to obtain within the probationary period
  • Ability to read and understand physician orders, flow sheets, and documentation
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Physical stamina to assist patients’ mobility and maneuvering equipment
  • Dexterity and comfort working with blood, body fluids, and sterile techniques
  • Current BLS certification; willingness to pursue further certifications
  • Eligibility to work in the USA with no limitations

Preference will be given to candidates who also have phlebotomy training, EKG/telemetry monitoring skills, or experience in orthopedic, surgical, or endoscopy settings. MedStar conducts background checks.
