Orthopedic Technician Responsibilities

In this hands-on role, key duties will involve:

  • Assisting physicians with examinations, cast/splint applications, and minor procedures
  • Monitoring children pre-and post-operatively, including vital signs and comfort levels
  • Performing measurements, x-rays or other imaging assistance as trained
  • Stocking supplies, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining an organized clinical setting
  • Entering patient information accurately into electronic records
  • Communicating with families regarding treatment plans and addressing concerns
  • Fulfilling shifts on an as-needed rotating schedule, including weekends
  • Other tasks supporting clinical flow and quality orthopedic care delivery

Strong technical, multi-tasking, and patient-handling skills are valuable in this fast-paced pediatric specialty environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some medical assisting or PT aide experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic orthopedic treatments, anatomy, and common pediatric conditions
  • Proficiency in using computers and electronic medical records
  • Ability to learn new orthopedic instruments, technologies, and techniques quickly
  • Current BLS certification with a willingness to pursue additional certifications
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Capacity for assisting children of various ages and disabilities
  • Reliability and flexibility with shift work, including occasional weekends
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without limitations

Preference is given to candidates possessing phlebotomy certification or a CNA license. Interest in pursuing an orthopedic technician associate degree is desirable.
