Role Overview

As a Medical Technician in the Allergy and Immunology Clinic, typical duties will involve:

  • Preparing patients for exams by collecting health histories and allergy testing consent
  • Performing skin or blood tests to identify allergies under physician supervision
  • Administering medications like epinephrine or antihistamines as needed
  • Monitoring patients during testing and managing any allergic reactions
  • Recording test results, updating medical records and flowsheets accurately
  • Assisting physicians with procedures like immunotherapy or desensitization
  • Communicating instructions, answering questions, and comforting nervous patients
  • Maintaining supplies and sterilizing exam rooms between patients
  • Completing daily tasks, training and continuing education requirements
  • Other duties as assigned supporting clinic operations

The ideal candidate has strong clinical and interpersonal skills to deliver compassionate care in this specialty pediatric setting. Attention to detail, organization, and documentation are critical.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred
  • At minimum 6 months experience as a medical assistant, phlebotomist or EMT
  • Current BLS certification with ACLS/PALS certification preferred
  • Experience with allergy testing, phlebotomy, injections, vitals and basic procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, immunology concepts and allergy treatment
  • Proficiency using electronic health records and typing 30+ wpm
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to patients and families
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and prioritization skills
  • Emotional intelligence to build rapport with anxious pediatric patients
  • Eligibility to work in the US with no limitations

Preference is given to candidates holding national certification as a Medical Assistant or those with pediatric clinic experience. Compliance with all Children’s National policies is required.
