Emergency Department Technician Responsibilities

Some key responsibilities in this busy night shift role include:

  • Assisting emergency physicians and nurses with patient care tasks
  • Transporting patients to/from relevant diagnostic exams or inpatient units
  • Stocking rooms with supplies, sterilizing equipment between patients
  • Collecting samples like blood, urine, or sputum as directed
  • Providing companionship or comforting critically ill patients as needed
  • Documenting details, vital signs, procedures, and physician orders accurately
  • Communicating changes in condition to the care team promptly

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; emergency medical or healthcare experience preferred
  • Certified as an EMT or ability to obtain certification within six months
  • Current BLS certification with the ability to maintain all certifications
  • Physical stamina for walking/standing long hours and assisting mobility-impaired patients
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems
  • Exceptional communication and documentation abilities
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and think decisively during crises
  • Eligibility to work in the US with reliable transportation for shift work
