Job Description

AAF Flanders is seeking a dedicated Controls Engineer or Technician to join its team in Louisville, Kentucky. In this role, you will work closely with engineers, electricians, and production staff to design, install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain control systems used in AAF Flanders’ air handling equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Programming PLC-based control logic using ladder logic and function block diagrams
  • Configuring HMIs for machine operation and monitoring
  • Developing control strategies and sequences to integrate mechanical, electrical, and automation components
  • Installing and wiring control panels, sensors, drives, and I/O modules
  • Commissioning and start-up of new control systems and production lines
  • Assisting with control system integration and factory acceptance testing
  • Maintaining and updating existing control system programs as needed
  • Diagnosing issues, performing root cause analysis, and resolving problems
  • Documenting control configurations, procedures, and changes
  • Providing technical support to electricians and equipment service technicians
  • Ensuring documentation is complete and meets ISO/QS standards
  • Collaborating with engineering teams on project requirements and specifications

The ideal candidate is self-motivated and diligent with documentation and troubleshooting skills. Experience with industrial ventilation controls is a major plus, but entry-level candidates will also be considered.


  • Associate’s degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering Technology or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience programming and maintaining industrial controls
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation, Allen Bradley, or Siemens control systems
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors and field devices
  • Experience developing control sequences for manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills
  • Basic CAD/design skills with tools like RSLogix and RSLogix 5000
  • Experience integrating mechanical and electrical systems a plus
  • Forklift operation certification is beneficial
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for commissioning and service work

The ideal candidate will have a hands-on mindset, be detail-oriented, and work well independently or as part of a team. U.S. work authorization is required for this role.
